Warrants, surrender and missed court

Use the Sheriff’s actual verification process

Fulton Sheriff’s Warrant Unit says only the subject may receive warrant status information, in person with proper photo identification at FCSO in the courthouse or jail. An online jail record or Most Wanted page is not a complete warrant clearance. If you suspect an active warrant, speak with counsel before going in and ask the issuing clerk about the case and any filed recall order. A request for recall is different from an entered order.

Prepare for the correct jurisdiction

Have counsel confirm the issuing court, charge, warrant number, release order if any, surrender location and any other jurisdictions involved. Arrange transport, essential family responsibilities and permitted medical information for intake. Ask the Sheriff which location accepts the surrender; do not confuse courthouse warrant information with a promise that booking takes place there. Ask the responsible agency about any special intake arrangement; do not assume a remote surrender or same day release is available.

A weekday is not a release guarantee

The ability to appear, complete booking, obtain a judge’s decision and clear separate holds governs the next steps. Fulton’s 2026 Magistrate order schedules its regular first appearance calendar Monday through Saturday, with Saturday hybrid sessions. Use the court’s current calendar and have counsel and the holding facility confirm the actual session, attendance arrangements and current order. Separate case calendars and holiday exceptions can apply. Choosing a weekday does not bypass an appearance requirement or guarantee physical release.

After a missed appearance

For a Fulton State Court criminal case, the FAQ says a reset requires a visit to the Criminal Division with photo ID and a current address. Ask counsel first about any arrest warrant and the safest lawful way to address it. Atlanta Municipal Court has a separate FTA process. Neither paying a fee nor asking for a new date proves a warrant is recalled. Obtain the new notice and written disposition of the warrant or bond issues from the proper court.

Revocation, reinstatement and forfeiture are different

Revocation concerns whether release may continue after an alleged violation. Reinstatement requires the proper court action; it is not automatic because a private balance is paid. Forfeiture concerns liability on the bond after a missed appearance and has separate legal procedures and notices. A surety’s surrender and any compensation or collateral question are also separate. Give counsel the notices, order, bond and agreement immediately and ask which issue is pending. Do not rely on an old deadline from an online summary; Georgia amended forfeiture procedures in 2024.
